Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Over UST-LUNA Collapse
Jane Street has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Terraform Labs' bankruptcy estate, denying allegations that it contributed to the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and its sister token Luna. In court filings, Jane Street argued that the case is an attempt to deflect responsibility for the Terra ecosystem's demise, which wiped out approximately $40 billion in value. The firm urged the court to reject the complaint with prejudice, preventing Terraform from pursuing the same claims in the future. Jane Street maintained that the core issues surrounding Terra's collapse have already been settled in court, citing cases against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud. Terraform's lawsuit, filed in January, accuses Jane Street of insider trading that accelerated the collapse, alleging the firm used confidential information to trade ahead of significant events. Jane Street disputes this narrative, denying any involvement in the collapse and stating that Terraform's fraud scheme has already been prosecuted and punished. The court's decision on Jane Street's motion may influence how responsibility for the collapse is assigned, with potential implications for the crypto sector.
