Industry Leaders Unite to Rescue Aave Users with Massive $300 Million Recovery Plan

The decentralized finance world is witnessing an unprecedented level of cooperation in response to a recent massive crypto hack. Aave, a leading lending protocol, is at the forefront of a broad recovery effort, with hundreds of millions of dollars in capital and credit commitments pouring in from across the industry. Dubbed 'DeFi United,' this effort has amassed around $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which affected rsETH markets and posed a risk to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a coordinated industry response. Aave Labs has proposed allocating up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery, while other contributors, including Aave's founder Stani Kulechov, have pledged significant amounts of ETH. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys, alongside its founder Joseph Lubin, committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Other ecosystem participants, such as Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, have also proposed contributions. The effort has drawn smaller contributions from across the community, with entities like Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures making deposits or purchasing AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities like Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance also involved. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi and underscores the importance of coordinated responses to crises in the industry.
