US Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

The US Department of Justice has arrested a US Army master sergeant for allegedly using confidential government information to place bets on a military operation in Venezuela, resulting in winnings of approximately $400,000. According to the indictment, Gannon Ken Van Dyke used his knowledge of the impending raid to place $33,000 in bets on the outcome, which is considered a clear case of insider trading. Van Dyke, an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, allegedly created a Polymarket account and placed multiple bets on contracts related to the raid. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint against Van Dyke, citing a breach of trust and a threat to national security. Following the raid, Van Dyke allegedly attempted to conceal his identity and withdrew his winnings, which were then transferred to a brokerage account. The incident has drawn attention from US President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of the practice of using confidential information for personal gain.
