Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equity Holders
In a move to enhance the tokenized equity experience, Ondo Finance has introduced proxy voting, allowing investors to participate in corporate decision-making. Through a partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, holders of over 250 tokenized securities can now access company filings and cast their votes via the ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can utilize tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. This advancement is significant, given the rapid growth of tokenized equities, which have surpassed $1.1 billion in value. As the largest issuer in this sector, with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs, Ondo's introduction of proxy voting addresses a crucial gap in governance rights. Although the tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, they enable investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional assets more accessible. The partnership with Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, extends its infrastructure to blockchain systems, supporting both digital and conventional assets. This integration is expected to enhance auditability, transparency, and compliance, ultimately boosting investor trust and scalability in the tokenized world, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
