Bitcoin Surpasses Critical Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive trend above the $75,000 mark, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as crucial for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. Despite this, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold beyond Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The expiry of the ceasefire and the potential for renewed conflict could significantly impact oil prices, potentially pushing them beyond the March high of $119 and causing turmoil in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will demonstrate resilience in the face of such market volatility, as it did during the March conflict when it stabilized around $70,000. The upcoming nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, is also on analysts' radar. Known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk,' Warsh's comments during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major players like ether, solana, and XRP have seen minimal gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have experienced more substantial growth, exceeding 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also seen an increase of over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index rose by 2%, a surprising outcome considering the recent hack of KelpDAO, which resulted in the attacker draining rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform plummeting to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 following the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility.
