Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equity Holders
In a bid to bridge the gap between tokenized equities and their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature. This innovation enables investors to participate in corporate governance, aligning tokenized equities with the benefits of traditional assets held in brokerage accounts. Through a collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, Ondo's platform now allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to access company filings and submit voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can log in using crypto wallets, thereby accessing documents and governance tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as tokenized equities have often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express preferences that Ondo can apply when voting the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. The benefits of being on-chain, including free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, are now complemented by the governance associated with the underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems. The goal is to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance. This, in turn, is expected to enhance the scalability of the tokenized world, fostering trust among end investors.
