Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
In a bid to bridge the gap between tokenized equities and their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance has launched a proxy voting feature, enabling investors to engage in corporate governance. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company filings and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can access these features using their crypto wallets, thereby leveraging tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as tokenized equities have experienced rapid growth, with the sector now boasting over $1.1 billion in value. As the largest issuer in this space, with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform, Ondo's move aims to enhance the investor experience. By incorporating proxy voting, Ondo addresses a critical gap in tokenized equities, which often lack basic governance rights. Although the tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems, with the goal of integrating both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. By providing investors with enhanced auditability, transparency, and compliance, this move is expected to increase trust and scalability in the tokenized world, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
