Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance has taken a significant step towards bridging the gap between tokenized equities and their traditional counterparts, enabling investors to engage in corporate governance. The company has collaborated with Broadridge Financial Solutions to introduce a proxy voting system, allowing holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company filings and cast their votes. This development enables investors to access documents and governance tools typically associated with brokerage accounts, using their crypto wallets. The introduction of proxy voting is crucial, as tokenized equities have often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain separate from the underlying shares, the new system permits investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this move aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. This development is expected to enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized world, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance as traditional assets.
