Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing

The bitcoin price, currently at $76,353.67, is exhibiting a positive trend above the $75,000 mark, a level that CoinDesk has identified as pivotal for the bulls to maintain their dominance. However, market observers are advising caution, noting that prices must remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex have pointed out that the market is pricing in two potential scenarios - an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or a renewed escalation and increased oil prices. This uncertainty could lead to significant price movements. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience, as it did during the March conflict, or if it will come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing after the 2008 crash. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, including XLM and TON, have seen more significant gains of over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by over 3%. Despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility. In terms of market trends, XRP remains below its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, even as market leaders bitcoin and ether have surpassed these levels. Until XRP reclaims both the 100-day average and the downtrend line, its momentum is likely to remain weak compared to BTC and ETH.
