Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing

Bitcoin is trading with a positive outlook above the $75,000 mark, a level that CoinDesk has identified as crucial for bulls to maintain their grip. However, some analysts are advising caution, noting that prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is bracing for two possible scenarios: an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or a renewed escalation that could lead to increased oil prices and market volatility. According to Marex analysts, "the ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday evening, Washington time, and the market must price in two paths, which is why, even with a strong BTC, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations." A potential escalation could send oil prices soaring above the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or succumb to pressure alongside the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation and has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen more significant gains, exceeding 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
