UK Seeks to Lure Crypto Leader Bybit to London, Emulate UAE's Innovative Edge

In a bid to replicate the success of Dubai and the UAE, UK economic development officials have invited Bybit's leadership to London, signaling the country's eagerness to attract major businesses and create jobs. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou revealed that the UK is keen to establish itself as a pro-crypto hub, with forthcoming regulations aimed at fostering growth in the sector. Following its founding in 2018, Bybit relocated its headquarters from Singapore to Dubai in 2022 and is currently ranked as the second-largest crypto exchange by CoinGecko. The presence of crypto giants like Bybit and Binance in the UAE has drawn smaller crypto companies to the region, a phenomenon the UK hopes to replicate. Zhou's meetings with the Financial Conduct Authority and the House of Lords coincided with UK Fintech Week and the Treasury's plans to overhaul payment systems using stablecoins and tokenization. The invitation to Bybit comes at a time when the UAE is facing challenges, including recent attacks from Iran, prompting an exodus of residents and tourists. The UK government's overture to Bybit is seen as an attempt to recapture the innovative spirit and investment that has flowed into the UAE.
