US Arrests Green Beret Over $400,000 Bets on Venezuela Raid He Participated In

The US Department of Justice has arrested a senior Army official for allegedly using confidential government information to place wagers on a military operation in Venezuela, from which he profited around $400,000. Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke, an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, also known as the 'green berets', has been charged with unlawfully using government information for personal gain, theft, and fraud. According to the indictment, Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed multiple bets on the outcome of the raid, including whether US forces would land in Venezuela and remove Maduro. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint against Van Dyke, stating that his actions endangered US national security and put American service members' lives at risk. After the raid, Van Dyke allegedly withdrew his winnings, converted them to cryptocurrency, and attempted to conceal his identity by asking Polymarket to delete his account. The incident has drawn comment from US President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of the practice of using confidential information for betting purposes.
