Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold as Investors Await Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive outlook above the $75,000 mark, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as crucial for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is bracing for two possible outcomes: an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or a renewal of escalation and increased oil prices. According to analysts at Marex, this uncertainty poses a significant risk to the market, stating, 'The ceasefire is set to expire Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market has to price two paths... That is why even with BTC strong, the tape can still gap fast.' An escalation of the conflict could lead to a significant surge in oil prices, potentially above the March high of $119, and may send Asian and global equity markets into a decline. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience in the face of market volatility, as it did during the March conflict when it held steady around $70,000. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to digital assets trading firm QCP Capital. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major players such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have experienced more significant growth, rising by over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also seen an increase of over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been hardest hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
