Bankman-Fried Drops Request for New Trial, Citing Fairness Concerns

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has retracted his request for a retrial, citing concerns over the fairness of the trial process. Currently serving a 25-year sentence for fraud and conspiracy, Bankman-Fried indicated that he may refile the motion after the outcome of his appeal and a related request for reassignment have been determined. The initial motion for a new trial was submitted by his mother, Barbara Fried, who claimed that newly discovered evidence warranted a retrial. Bankman-Fried revealed that he personally drafted the motion while in detention, with limited input from his lawyers and family members. His appeal is currently pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where his lawyer argued that the original trial was fundamentally flawed due to restrictions on the evidence presented to the jury.
