Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance is enhancing its tokenized equities to mirror traditional assets, enabling investors to engage in corporate decision-making. A new feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to access company documents and cast votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can leverage tools typically reserved for brokerage accounts. The tokenized equities sector has experienced rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, and Ondo is the largest issuer, with more than $700 million in tokens on its platform. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a significant gap in governance rights for these assets. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express preferences that Ondo can apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision to increase access to traditional financial assets. "By combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets, we can create a more inclusive and transparent financial system," he stated. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain-based assets. The goal is to provide a unified workflow for both digital and conventional assets, ensuring auditability, transparency, and compliance. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, this will help establish trust with end investors and make the tokenized ecosystem more scalable.
