Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Hack

In the often fragmented world of decentralized finance, crises often reveal underlying weaknesses. However, the recent hack has also brought to light an unusual level of cooperation among industry leaders. Aave, a prominent lending protocol in DeFi, is at the center of a large-scale recovery effort following significant losses due to the Kelp DAO exploit. This effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital pending governance approval. The exploit, which affected rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a highly coordinated industry response. Aave Labs has proposed allocating up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery plan, while founder Stani Kulechov has pledged to donate 5,000 ETH personally. Other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, have also made significant contributions. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle have also proposed allocating funds to support users and limit bad debt. Compound has proposed giving up to 3,000 ETH to the fund, while Babylon Foundation plans to deposit $3 million in USDT. Renzo has supplied over $10 million from its treasury, and Circle Ventures is purchasing AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities such as Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance contributing to the effort. Aave Labs has also proposed releasing roughly 30,765.67 ETH immobilized by Arbitrum's Security Council to support affected rsETH holders. Much of the capital remains subject to governance approval, but the breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi.
