Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive outlook above $75,000, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as crucial for the bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, market observers are advising caution, noting that prices must remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire.
Analysts at Marex have pointed out that the market is pricing in two possible scenarios: an extension of the ceasefire and de-escalation, or a renewed escalation that could lead to increased oil prices and market volatility. They warned that even with bitcoin showing strength, the market can still experience rapid price swings due to headline risk. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets.
The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation and has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past.
His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, including XLM and TON, have seen more significant gains of over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by over 3%.
Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain a significant amount of rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been the hardest hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead.
In terms of market trends, XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, indicating relatively weak momentum compared to bitcoin and ether, which have established firmer bullish structures.
