Major Upgrade Unveiled by Sam Altman's World Project to Combat Deepfakes and Bots

Sam Altman's World digital identity project has announced its most significant upgrade to World ID, positioning it as a comprehensive 'proof of human' infrastructure. This development aims to address growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online by enhancing authentication, payments, and internet services. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, requiring users to visit an Orb in person for facial and iris scanning to generate a unique cryptographic code. The upgrade introduces a redesigned architecture focusing on improved privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding its integrations with consumer platforms like Tinder and Zoom, as well as exploring enterprise use cases, including a 'Deep Face' feature with Zoom to verify meeting participants and incorporating proof-of-human checks into digital agreements with Docusign.
