Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a bid to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature, enabling investors to participate in corporate governance. This development allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company filings and cast their votes through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By integrating this feature, Ondo aims to provide investors with a more comprehensive experience, mirroring that of traditional brokerage accounts. The move is significant, as tokenized equities have experienced rapid growth, with the sector now boasting over $1.1 billion in value. As the largest issuer in this space, Ondo's $700 million in stock and ETF tokens on its Global Markets platform will now offer investors a greater degree of control. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a long-standing issue in the tokenized equities space, where investors often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development is a key component of the company's vision to make traditional financial assets more accessible. By combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of traditional assets, Ondo is poised to revolutionize the tokenized equities space. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain-based systems. The goal is to create a seamless experience for investors, providing the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance for both digital and conventional assets. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, this move will play a crucial role in making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy for end investors.
