Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a significant move to align tokenized equities with their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance is now offering investors a means to engage in corporate governance. This is achieved through a feature developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enabling holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company filings and cast their voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can access these governance tools, typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts, by logging in with their crypto wallets. The introduction of proxy voting is crucial as it addresses a significant gap in tokenized equities, which have often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens are distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, this new system allows investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, "This development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance rights of underlying assets." Broadridge, a major processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within unified workflows. Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted that providing investors with the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance will significantly enhance the scalability of the tokenized world, fostering trust among end investors.
