DeFi Leaders Unite to Support Aave Users with Hundreds of Millions in Rescue Plan
The world of decentralized finance is often marked by division, but in times of crisis, it can also reveal a surprising level of cooperation. A recent massive crypto hack has prompted a broad recovery effort, with Aave, one of DeFi's largest lending protocols, at its center. The effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has garnered around $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The hack, which affected rsETH markets and created risk across lending positions on Aave, has led to one of the most coordinated industry responses to a DeFi incident. Aave itself is at the core of the effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery. Other contributors, including Aave's founder Stani Kulechov, have also stepped in, with Kulechov donating 5,000 ETH personally. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Smaller contributions have also been made by various community members, including Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle. The effort has drawn support from across the ecosystem, with a growing list of participants, including Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi and demonstrates a shared priority around supporting users and restoring normal market conditions.
