Bitcoin Price Holds Steady Above Crucial Level Ahead of Warsh Hearing
The bitcoin price is currently trading with a positive trend above the $75,000 threshold, a level that has been identified as critical for maintaining bullish control. However, analysts are advising caution as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is pricing in two potential scenarios: an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or a renewal of escalation and increased oil prices. According to Marex analysts, 'the ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider two paths, which is why even with a strong BTC, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations due to headline risk with a timer.' If the conflict escalates, oil prices could surge beyond the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or succumb to pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. His comments during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to QCP Capital. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen more substantial increases of over 5% each, while the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by more than 3%. The DeFi Select Index has also added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack over the weekend, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has dropped 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
