Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Over UST-LUNA Collapse

Jane Street has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Terraform Labs' bankruptcy estate, arguing that the claims against it are an attempt to deflect responsibility for the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and its sister token Luna. The firm asserts that the lawsuit rehashes events that have already been resolved in court and seeks to hold it liable for losses caused by Terraform's own internal misconduct. In its filing, Jane Street maintains that the core issues surrounding Terra's collapse have been settled in previous court cases, including those against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud. The firm argues that it had no involvement in Terraform's fraud scheme and that the lawsuit is an attempt to extract cash from Jane Street to compensate for Terraform's own wrongdoing. Terraform's lawsuit, filed in January, accuses Jane Street of insider trading that contributed to the collapse, but Jane Street disputes this narrative and denies any role in the collapse. The court's decision on Jane Street's motion could have significant implications for how responsibility for the collapse is assigned and may shape the future of similar cases in the crypto sector.
