DeFi Community Unites to Support Aave Users with Massive Rescue Plan Following Crypto Hack
In the decentralized finance world, crises often expose underlying weaknesses, but the current situation is revealing a high level of cooperation. Aave, a leading DeFi lending protocol, is at the center of a broad recovery effort following significant losses due to the Kelp DAO exploit. The initiative, known as 'DeFi United,' has secured around $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital still awaiting governance approval. The exploit has had far-reaching consequences, affecting rsETH markets and creating risk across lending positions on Aave, prompting a coordinated industry response. Aave Labs, along with other key players, is driving the effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH for the recovery. Other contributors, including Aave's founder Stani Kulechov, are also donating significant amounts of ETH. The response has expanded beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support, and other ecosystem participants, such as Sharplink, Lido, and EtherFi, also contributing. The effort has drawn a wide range of participants, including Compound, Mantle, and Babylon Foundation, with many more committing to support the recovery. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi and demonstrates the community's ability to come together in times of crisis.
