Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Market Awaits Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a bullish outlook above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as pivotal for the bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. According to analysts at Marex, the market is bracing for two possible scenarios: an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or a renewal of hostilities and increased oil prices. This uncertainty is creating headline risk with a timer. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially destabilizing Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin, which demonstrated relative stability around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or succumb to broader market pressures. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. His statements during the hearing could have a significant impact on the markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to digital assets trading firm QCP Capital. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major players like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Meanwhile, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have experienced more substantial growth, rising by over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also seen an increase of over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide repercussions from the weekend's KelpDAO hack, which resulted in the attacker draining rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform plummeting to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has fallen 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
