Ethereum Co-Founder Warns of AI Risks if Controlled by Big Tech
The crypto industry is on the cusp of a significant transformation driven by artificial intelligence, according to Joseph Lubin, CEO of Consensys and co-founder of Ethereum. In a recent interview, Lubin explained that autonomous agents can leverage decentralized networks and crypto infrastructure to facilitate machine-driven activities. He envisions a future where intelligent interfaces simplify user interactions with crypto systems, effectively positioning AI as an intermediary between individuals and protocols. However, Lubin cautioned that if AI infrastructure becomes dominated by a few large tech firms, it could pose significant risks. He emphasized the need for decentralized systems and cryptography to ensure accountability and transparency. Lubin also discussed the evolution of products like MetaMask, which is being redeveloped as a user-controlled neobank, and the growth of corporate chains on Ethereum. He noted that stablecoins are a stepping stone towards more decentralized financial systems and that tokenization will lead to a more granular and programmable global economy. While acknowledging the potential risks of quantum computing, Lubin expressed confidence in Ethereum's ability to adapt and evolve in response to emerging challenges.
