Breakthrough in Quantum Attack: Researcher Claims 1 Bitcoin Bounty

Lelli's achievement involves breaking a 15-bit elliptic curve key, which, although significantly smaller than Bitcoin's 256-bit security, represents a substantial leap forward in quantum computing capabilities. This development underscores the growing concern over the potential vulnerability of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum to quantum attacks, which could potentially compromise their security. The bounty, valued at approximately $78,000, was awarded for demonstrating the largest public quantum attack on elliptic curve cryptography to date.
