Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $76,800.79 with a positive outlook, surpassing the critical $75,000 threshold that CoinDesk identified as essential for bulls to maintain control. However, analysts advise caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is pricing in two possible scenarios: an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or renewed escalation and oil price increases. According to Marex analysts, "The ceasefire is set to expire Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market has to price two paths, extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress. That is why even with BTC strong, the tape can still gap fast. It is headline risk with a timer." An escalation could lead to oil prices exceeding the March high of $119, potentially causing Asian and global equity markets to decline. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will remain resilient or come under pressure along with the broader market, as it did during the March conflict when it held relatively steady around $70,000. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing after the 2008 crash. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen minimal gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has increased by over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility. Currently, XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, even as market leaders bitcoin and ether have surpassed these levels on their respective price charts. Until XRP reclaims both the 100-day average and the downtrend line, momentum is expected to remain comparatively weak versus BTC and ETH, which have established firmer bullish structures.
