Bitcoin Encounters Resistance at $80,000, Analyst Predicts Temporary Setback
The price of Bitcoin, currently at $76,835.50, is experiencing a familiar pattern just shy of the $80,000 mark, hindered by sellers despite factors such as new stablecoin liquidity, ETF demand, and a risk-positive equity market that suggest a potential breakout may be postponed rather than cancelled. Bitcoin briefly surpassed $79,000 during Asian trading hours before retreating to trade below $78,000. Over the past day, it has seen a loss of about 0.4%, with Ether down 0.6%, XRP falling 0.8%, and Solana's SOL dropping over 1%. Broader market indexes also faced pressure, each falling over 1%. Alex Kuptsikevich, FxPro's chief market analyst, attributes the $80,000 level acting as a short-term barrier due to concentrated sell orders. Kuptsikevich notes, 'As Bitcoin approaches the $80K mark for the second time in recent days, it has encountered significant downward momentum, with a buildup of sell orders preventing further upward movement.' However, he believes the pullback is temporary and aligns with an uptrend that started in late March. On-chain and ETF data support this view, with Binance recording a net stablecoin inflow of roughly $3.4 billion this month. Institutional demand remains strong, with U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs attracting $2.44 billion in April. Despite this, security risks in DeFi, including recent exploits like Scallop, continue to impact sentiment. DeFi protocols have lost an estimated $623 million to hacks in April, underscoring a persistent structural risk. In traditional markets, crude oil prices remain high, threatening global economic stability with potential high inflation.
