The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced its most substantial upgrade to date, introducing a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure designed for individuals, businesses, and AI systems. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns over bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, requiring users to visit an Orb in person for facial and iris scanning to generate a unique cryptographic code. The update features a redesigned architecture focusing on improved privacy, security, and usability, with new features including account-based identity, multi-key support, and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly.
