Parasite Mining Pool Strikes Again, Uncovering Its Second Bitcoin Block
A groundbreaking bitcoin mining pool, Parasite Pool, has successfully mined its second block, validating its innovative design. The pool, which was launched in April 2025, operates on a unique hybrid model that differs from traditional pay-per-share and pure lottery approaches. On Friday, the pool mined block 945,601, containing 7,398 transactions and 0.002 BTC in fees, with bitcoin trading at $76,213. The winning miner received 1 BTC, while the remaining 2.125 BTC plus fees were distributed proportionally among all participants based on their shares submitted since the previous block. This model allows for no fees to participate and payouts are made through the Lightning Network. The pool's founder, ZK Shark, aims to support home miners, providing an alternative to industrial-scale mining operations. By splitting the block reward, Parasite Pool offers a balance between the lottery-style payday and consistent satoshi distribution, keeping participants engaged between blocks. The pool's hashrate currently stands at 52 petahashes per second, accounting for roughly 0.005% of the bitcoin network's estimated 1-zetahash hashrate. With its second block, Parasite Pool has demonstrated the potential of its hybrid model, and a third block within the next two months could solidify its case as a viable alternative to traditional mining pools.
