Cardano Developer Submits $46.8 Million Funding Proposal for Scalability and DeFi Expansion
The company behind the Cardano blockchain is seeking a reduced funding allocation from the project's community treasury, marking a shift towards increased self-sufficiency. Input Output has submitted nine proposals, totaling $46.8 million, which focus on enhancing the network's scalability and expanding its presence in the Bitcoin DeFi space. This reduced funding request is part of a broader plan to gradually decrease the company's reliance on community funds, with the goal of becoming self-sustaining through its own revenue. The proposals include a consensus upgrade called Leios, aimed at significantly increasing Cardano's transaction processing capacity, as well as a system called Pogun, which seeks to introduce Bitcoin-based decentralized finance to the Cardano ecosystem. Other proposals cover various improvements, including performance enhancements, security testing, and developer tools. The funding will be tied to specific delivery milestones, ensuring that the allocated funds are utilized efficiently. The voting process, which will determine the fate of these proposals, is set to run from Tuesday through May 24, with the decisions being made by approximately 1,000 elected delegates representing ADA holders. This vote will serve as a test for Cardano's governance, evaluating whether the community will continue to approve Input Output's funding requests or instead opt for alternative development paths. The outcome will signal the community's willingness to support Input Output's plans and its vision for the future of the Cardano ecosystem.
