Parasite Mining Pool Strikes Again, Finding Its Second Bitcoin Block

A novel bitcoin mining pool, designed to challenge traditional models, has achieved its second block. Parasite Pool, launched in April 2025, has now mined block 945,601, roughly 48 days after its initial block at #938,713. This block contained 7,398 transactions and 0.002 BTC in fees, with bitcoin trading at $76,213 at the time. The pool operates on a unique hybrid model, where the winning miner receives 1 BTC, and the remaining 2.125 BTC plus fees are distributed proportionally among participants based on their shares. There are no fees to participate, and payouts are made through the Lightning Network. This approach aims to provide a more equitable distribution of rewards, as opposed to the traditional winner-takes-all model. The pool's founder, ZK Shark, targets home miners with this innovative approach. By splitting the block reward, Parasite Pool aims to keep participants engaged, even during periods without a block find. The pool's hashrate currently stands at 52 petahashes per second, and its ability to retain hashrate during the 48-day gap between blocks is a significant validation of its model. As the mining landscape continues to evolve, Parasite Pool's hybrid approach may provide a viable alternative for home miners and small-scale operations.
