Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Tied to UST-LUNA Collapse

Jane Street has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the bankruptcy estate of Terraform Labs, arguing that the claims against it are an attempt to deflect responsibility for the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin and its sister token Luna. In a filing submitted to the Southern District of New York, Jane Street and several employees asserted that the case is without merit and seeks damages for losses caused by Terraform's own internal misconduct. The firm argued that the lawsuit rehashes events that have already been settled in court, including criminal and civil cases against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who has been found liable for securities fraud and is serving a prison sentence. Jane Street denied any involvement in Terraform's alleged fraud scheme and maintained that the lawsuit is an attempt to extract cash from the firm to compensate for Terraform's own wrongdoing. The court's decision on Jane Street's motion could have significant implications for the assignment of responsibility for the Terra ecosystem's collapse, which erased roughly $40 billion in value and had far-reaching consequences for the crypto sector.
