World, a digital identity project backed by Sam Altman, has launched its most significant upgrade to date, introducing a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure designed for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns within the tech industry about bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, requiring users to visit an Orb in person for facial and iris scanning to generate a unique cryptographic code. The upgrade features a redesigned architecture focusing on improved privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity, multi-key support, and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced, allowing users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding its integrations with consumer platforms like Tinder and Zoom, as well as exploring enterprise use cases, including a feature with Docusign to incorporate proof-of-human checks into digital agreements.
