Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,746.65 with a positive outlook, surpassing the critical $75,000 threshold that CoinDesk previously identified as essential for bulls to maintain control. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two possible paths: the extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or renewed escalation and increased oil prices. This uncertainty could lead to significant market fluctuations. An escalation of the conflict could drive oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to demonstrate resilience or succumb to pressure along with the broader market. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, analysts are closely watching Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation and has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, including XLM and TON, have risen by more than 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has increased by over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which resulted in the attacker draining rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
