Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Markets Await Warsh Hearing and US-Iran Ceasefire Deadline
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive trend above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as vital for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the importance of prices remaining above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. According to analysts at Marex, the market is pricing in two potential paths - either an extension and de-escalation of the conflict or a renewed escalation that could lead to higher oil prices and negatively impact Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure alongside the broader market. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, investors are watching Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk,' could influence market expectations with his remarks, particularly if they reinforce the possibility of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major players like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, such as XLM and TON, have experienced more significant growth, with increases of over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also risen by more than 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide repercussions from the weekend's KelpDAO hack, which resulted in the attacker draining rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform dropping to $16 billion, a decrease of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 following the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
