Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
At $79,001.12, Bitcoin is maintaining a positive trajectory above the $75,000 mark, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as vital for bullish control. However, market observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. Analysts at Marex noted, 'The market must consider two paths: the extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress, which could lead to rapid price gaps due to headline risk.' An escalation could drive oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially destabilizing Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether Bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or succumb to broader market pressures. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash. His remarks during the hearing could significantly impact markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. Major cryptocurrencies like Ether, Solana, and XRP have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming Bitcoin. In contrast, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index increasing by over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack over the weekend, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with its total value locked falling to $16 billion, a nearly $10 billion decrease since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token reached a record high, indicating potential volatility ahead.
