Parasite Mining Pool Achieves Second Bitcoin Block, Validates Hybrid Model
A pioneering bitcoin mining pool, designed to challenge traditional models, has successfully mined its second block. Parasite Pool, launched in April 2025, operates on a hybrid system where the winning miner receives 1 BTC, while the remaining 2.125 BTC and fees are distributed among all participants based on their contributions. This approach aims to provide a more equitable and sustainable mining experience, especially for home miners. The pool's second block, number 945,601, was mined on Friday, carrying 7,398 transactions and 0.002 BTC in fees, with bitcoin trading at $76,213. The block's mining demonstrates the effectiveness of Parasite's model, which combines elements of both pay-per-share and pure lottery approaches. By offering no fees to participate and routing payouts through the Lightning Network, the pool attracts a diverse range of miners. The competition in bitcoin mining is fierce, with industrial operators dominating the landscape. However, Parasite Pool's founder, ZK Shark, aims to create a more inclusive environment, particularly for home miners. The pool's hashrate currently stands at 52 petahashes per second, accounting for approximately 0.005% of the bitcoin network's estimated 1-zetahash hashrate. As the mining landscape continues to evolve, Parasite Pool's innovative approach may pave the way for a more sustainable and community-driven mining experience. With its second block mined, the pool has validated its design, and a third block within the next two months would further solidify its position in the mining ecosystem.
