Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing

Bitcoin is currently trading at $79,234.40 with a positive outlook, surpassing the critical $75,000 threshold that CoinDesk identified as essential for bulls to maintain control. However, analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. According to Marex analysts, 'The market must consider two possible paths: an extension and de-escalation, or renewed escalation and oil stress. This is why, despite bitcoin's strength, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations. It's a headline risk with a timer.' An escalation could lead to a significant increase in oil prices, potentially above the March high of $119, and negatively impact Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday, is also being closely watched by analysts. Warsh, known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing after the 2008 crash. His remarks during the hearing could act as a near-term catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen minimal gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index up over 3%. The DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for more volatility ahead.
