Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive outlook above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as critical for maintaining bullish momentum. However, market observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two potential paths - extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil price increases - which could lead to rapid market fluctuations. This 'headline risk with a timer' could potentially push oil prices beyond the March high of $119, impacting Asian and global equity markets and posing the question of whether bitcoin will remain resilient or face pressure alongside the broader market. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without an agreement. Meanwhile, the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing after the 2008 crash, and his remarks during the hearing could serve as a near-term market catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major assets like ether, solana, and XRP have seen less than 2% growth over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin, while smaller tokens like XLM and TON have experienced over 5% increases each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by more than 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend's KelpDAO hack, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with its total value of locked crypto assets falling to $16 billion, a nearly $10 billion decrease since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high, pointing to potential increased volatility ahead.
