Parasite Mining Pool Strikes Again, Finding Its Second Bitcoin Block

The Parasite Pool, a revolutionary Bitcoin mining pool that defies conventional models, has achieved a significant milestone by mining its second block. This innovative pool, launched in April 2025, operates on a distinctive hybrid model that combines elements of both the industrial pay-per-share approach and the pure lottery system. On Friday, the pool successfully mined block 945,601, its second block since its inception, and roughly 48 days after its first block discovery at #938,713 in late February. The block consisted of 7,398 transactions and 0.002 BTC in fees, with Bitcoin trading at $76,213 at the time of the discovery. The winning miner received 1 BTC outright, while the remaining 2.125 BTC plus fees were distributed proportionally among all pool participants based on their shares submitted since the previous block. Notably, participation in this pool comes with no fees, and payouts are facilitated through the Lightning Network. The pool's unique model is designed to provide a more equitable distribution of rewards, aiming to benefit home miners and smaller-scale operators. By preserving the lottery-style payday for the block finder while distributing the remainder proportionally, Parasite Pool offers a distinct approach to Bitcoin mining. The pool's founder, ZK Shark, is also the creator of the Ordinal Maxi Biz NFT collection on Bitcoin. With a current hashrate of 52 petahashes per second, down from a peak of 182 PH/s in June 2025, Parasite Pool accounts for roughly 0.005% of Bitcoin's estimated 1-zetahash network hashrate. The success of this pool has significant implications for the future of Bitcoin mining, as it tests the viability of a hybrid split model in maintaining participant engagement through the inevitable losing stretches. A third block discovery within the next two months would further solidify the case for Parasite Pool's innovative approach.
