Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Market Awaits Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,980.33, maintaining a positive trajectory above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as pivotal for the bulls to retain control. However, market observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted, 'The ceasefire is due to end on Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider two paths: extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress. This is why, even with BTC performing strongly, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations. It's a matter of headline risk with a timer.' An escalation could potentially drive oil prices above the March high of $119, which might send Asian and global equity markets into a decline. The question remains whether bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or come under pressure alongside the broader market. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation had departed for the talks in Pakistan. On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on analysts' radar is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk' who opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash. His statements during the hearing could potentially move markets, as noted by digital assets trading firm QCP Capital, 'His remarks could act as a near-term catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing.' In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether (ETH), solana (SOL), and XRP (XRP) have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, such as XLM and TON, have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index up over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, a surprising move given the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead. Currently trending is the signal that XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, even as market leaders bitcoin and ether have surpassed these levels on their respective price charts. Until XRP reclaims both the 100-day average and the downtrend line, its momentum remains weaker compared to BTC and ETH, which have established firmer bullish structures.
