Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $78,241.40, maintaining a positive trajectory above the critical $75,000 threshold that CoinDesk has identified as essential for bulls to retain control. However, market observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two potential paths: the extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or renewed escalation and increased oil prices. This uncertainty could lead to rapid price fluctuations. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to demonstrate resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, the market is watching Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk,' having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major players such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have experienced more substantial growth, with increases of over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by more than 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has decreased by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility.
