Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $78,043.27 with a positive outlook, surpassing the critical $75,000 threshold that is essential for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, analysts are advising caution as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. The market is anticipating two possible paths: an extension and de-escalation, or a renewed escalation and increased oil prices. According to Marex analysts, "The ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider both possibilities, which may lead to significant price movements due to headline risk with a timer." An escalation could push oil prices above $119, potentially causing a decline in Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to be resilient or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for being an "inflation hawk" who opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash. His statements during the hearing could significantly impact the market. Major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen a minor increase of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. In contrast, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has increased by over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has added 2%, which is surprising given the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential volatility ahead.
