Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Investors Await Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive outlook above the $75,000 threshold, a level that CoinDesk has identified as crucial for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, as the price needs to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is pricing in two possible scenarios: an extension of the ceasefire and de-escalation, or a renewal of escalation and increased oil prices. According to analysts at Marex, this uncertainty could lead to significant price swings, even if bitcoin remains strong. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation and has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, such as XLM and TON, have seen gains of over 5% each, while the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token. Decentralized lender Aave has been the hardest hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential for more volatility ahead.
