Bitcoin Surpasses Critical Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $78,100.20 with a positive outlook, surpassing the crucial $75,000 level that CoinDesk identified as essential for bulls to maintain control. However, analysts urge caution as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is bracing for two possible outcomes: an extension and de-escalation or renewed escalation and oil stress, according to Marex analysts. This uncertainty could lead to rapid price fluctuations. An escalation could lead to oil prices exceeding $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will remain resilient or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair is also on the radar, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his hawkish stance on inflation, could move markets with his remarks, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. Major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, while the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up over 3%. The DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with its total value of crypto assets locked falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead.
