DeFi Protocol Volo Loses Millions to Hackers Just Days After KelpDAO Breach
The decentralized finance sector is facing a deepening security crisis, with another major protocol, Volo, falling victim to a significant hack. This latest breach has led to the loss of around $3.5 million in cryptocurrency from three of its yield-generating vaults, which were holding WBTC, XAUm, and USDC. The exploit, confirmed by Volo Protocol, occurred on the Sui blockchain and has prompted the platform to freeze all vaults temporarily while it works with the Sui Foundation and on-chain investigators to contain the damage and trace the stolen funds. Although the protocol has managed to immobilize $500,000 of the stolen assets through coordination with its ecosystem partners, the majority of the funds remain under investigation. This incident comes on the heels of the KelpDAO breach, exacerbating concerns about the security of smart contracts and the oversight of DeFi protocols. The cumulative losses in the DeFi space have now surpassed $10 billion, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect user assets.
