Bitcoin Price Holds Above Crucial Level as Markets Await Warsh Hearing
The bitcoin price is currently trading with a positive trend above $75,000, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as essential for the bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two possible paths - the extension and de-escalation of the ceasefire, or its renewal and the potential escalation and oil price stress. This uncertainty could lead to rapid price movements. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of the time of writing, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan. On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the analysts' radar is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. His comments during the hearing could have a significant impact on the markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen gains of over 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up by over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has also added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for further volatility ahead.
