The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced its most substantial upgrade to date, introducing a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure designed for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns within the tech industry regarding bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, requiring users to visit an Orb in person for a face and iris scan to generate a unique cryptographic code. The update features a redesigned architecture focusing on enhanced privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity, multi-key support, and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding partnerships with various platforms, including Tinder, Zoom, and Docusign, to embed its identity layer across consumer and enterprise platforms, aiming to make proof-of-human identity as effortless as social media login.
